After a marathon engagement (2.5 years), Matt and I got married! Welcome to your one-stop-shop for information on the Miyasaki-Renquist festivities.
How we met
Matt and I met in October of 1996, as freshmen in the Integrated Studies dorm at UC Davis. My roommate Susan and I were making the rounds around the dorm and meeting people. (I took Oscar with me.) Matt was unpacking. (How unexpected.) We started dating in October of 1998 with a trip to the San Francisco Zoo followed by the Museum of Modern Art, where we took in an Alexander Calder exhibit.
So, here’s how I like to tell it. . . my Grandma Nakahara was sick and in the hospital, and I was worried about her, so I told Matt, ‘We have to get engaged RIGHT NOW,’ so as to make her happy. (This was in 2003.) Then she got better. (As my mother says, ‘She fooled you, she fooled you!’) Suddenly, there was no hurry to tie the actual knot. Summer 2004 became summer 2005. . . now, as we approach summer 2006, the date is finally set. We’re slow, but steady.
Details, details (traditionalists, beware): Matt and I chose the ring together, but he wanted to propose somewhere special. We booked a vacation at the Howard Creek Ranch Inn after Christmas 2003, and Matt proposed on the beach (in the rain)
We (finally) got married Sunday, August 6, 2006, at 4 p.m. in the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens dahlia garden.
Following the ceremony, we had dinner at Honour’s Place.
A good time was had by all. If you don’t believe, me check out the pictures.
