Matt, tech genius

November 21st, 2006

After I posted the nitrogen post (actually today; I falsified the post date/time to reflect accurately when we had fun with liquid nitrogen), the website broke. I swear I didn’t do it. I checked the website, and suddenly everything was in bold. And I couldn’t fix it. So I called Matt and left a message. Half an hour later, I checked my e-mail and found. . .

Hey your message. The editor went 'strong' happy and incorrectly
inserted too many strong tags (they make the text bold). I went in and got
rid of the extras. Should be ok now. See you soon, I love you.

Pure genius. (Lest he think me ungrateful.)

Matt fixed my site!

October 21st, 2006

Many thanks to Matt’s Tech Support, which found a new web host, and did a bunch of other stuff I don’t understand, and thus allowed me to (finally) post pictures on my site. (I bring this up because as I was composing my post, Matt looks over and says, “You’re not going to say that I fixed your site? Ungrateful slob.” Thus, I prove that I am not an ungrateful slob, merely a vengeful one.)

Anyway, here are some fabulous pictures that you missed during the website troubles.

Exhibit A: Philip crying out the hotel room window at Matt whenever he left the room.

Exhibit B: Henry cuddling his Suspicious Chicken.

It’s working! (We hope and pray)

If at first you don’t succeed. . . make Matt try again.

We think the wedding slide show is working. I’m sure I’ll hear about it if we’re wrong.

Wedding photos go online

Kim and Matt at Honour's

No, not just that one. (Good thing, too. Word Press, the back end I use to for this website, has a funky photo editor. I can’t make that picture bigger, or it pixelates.)

Those who attended the Fresno reception saw our official proof photos from our rocking photographer Michael Antonelli, but for those who did not. . . or who did but want to again. . .there’s a slide show of wedding pictures on, appropriately, the wedding page.

Look, a poll!

August 29th, 2006

I’ve been pestering Matt’s Tech Support for some time for refinements to this site. The problem is that I know nothing about web design, but I spend a lot of time on the internet. Thus, I want all the bells and whistles (a poll, for example) but lack the ability to acquire them myself. Matt’s Tech Support to the rescue!

(Matt worked on my site during his lunch break today. Thank him by voting for Henry, his favorite dog, in the poll.)

Announcing. . . The Dog “Blog!”

June 27th, 2006

Ta da! Keep up on the trials and travails of fostering Dog A. . . until I get tired of writing about them.

Name this website!

June 22nd, 2006

Okay, so the “Kim’s Site” thing is a generic string of placeholder text inserted by Matt’s Tech Support. And so while I am suitably grateful, it’s not particularly original or anything, so I’m looking for a good name (and a tagline).

Guidelines: I frown upon cutesy things involving misspelling, such as “Kim’s Korner.” (It hurts just to type that and leave it onscreen.) I do like alliteration, big or otherwise unusual words, puns, and general cleverness. Submit your suggestions to the comments, and fire away! The winner gets to name the site (duh) and all the accolades that go with that honor.

Look, a website!

June 22nd, 2006

This being the digital age and all, I’ve been considering a website for some time. The benefits of being affianced to Matt’s Tech Support include having a domain procured for you in your name and getting a website set up for you on said domain without actually learning anything about the process. Though the e-mail side has been up and running for several years now, I’ve been avoiding the web side because:

A. It takes too much work, time, and knowledge.
B. It pre-empts my Needlenose News.
C. No one who cares (i.e., my family, excluding my brother) has internet access.

However, I’ve come to decide that:

A. Matt does all the work and has all the knowledge. Also, I’m on summer vacation at the moment (the mother of all teaching perks).
B. I don’t always have space in the Needlenose News for all the details I’d like to include. Also, some are less suitable than others for the consumption of, say, my grandmother. A complimentary web-based space solves that problem nicely.
C. People who care (i.e., my family, excluding my brother) already get a paper copy of the Needlenose News. Postage costs for said publication to anyone who might possibly care (i.e., assorted friends I’m not in close contact with) would be ruinous. This is a nice compromise.

At any rate, welcome. The site will likely be updated frequently from June – Septemer, and significantly less frequently for the rest of the year. It’s a teaching thing.
