Monday is 60s day at school

And this is what I’m wearing:

I don’t usually play along with Spirit Week, but Matt and I were at Target Friday night and found something too good to pass up — $10 tie-dyed shirts and a pair of clearance ($7) ripped, bell-bottom jeans.

The jeans, unfortunately, didn’t quite fit me, requiring some strategic modification.   According to the Lord Google (Glee reference), the practice of converting old jeans into a skirt came about in the 60s — perfect.   So with the help of an internet tutorial and a few yards of muslin I had lying around, the too-tight-jeans-I-probably-shouldn’t-wear-to-teach-middle-school-anyway became a perfectly modest A-line skirt.

60s day

(I wish I still had Birkenstocks, but they’re long gone, and barefoot, while also authentic, isn’t really an option, so I think I’ll have to go with my Sketchers.   Oh well.)

The genius of this outfit is going to be entirely lost on my kids, who were born in 1997, but it amuses Matt and me, and I’m sure my favorite colleague, Arlene (who’s retiring this year) will also enjoy it.   The only problem is, it’s going to be hard to top.
